New CPR App Rocks

pulsepoint

A brilliant new CPR app called PulsePoint is going to change emergency rescue.

The app alerts phone users within a quarter of a mile when someone has suffered a possible heart attack. It also shows the exact locations of any automated external defibrillators.

The Ohio fire department teamed up with a local hospital to integrate the software into the city’s emergency dispatch system.

Once an emergency call is received, any phone user with the app installed will be alerted. Their goal is to get CPR going as quickly as possible to increase the chances of survival.

A 13-year-old girl is alive today thanks to fast acting bystanders.

Just before noon today, witnesses saw a girl stop swimming. Within thirty seconds they pulled her from the pool and started CPR.

She wasn’t breathing, and had no pulse, when they begin CPR.

By the time the fire rescue crew arrived, she was breathing on her own.

Witness CPR in Action

It isn’t everyday that a CPR rescue is caught on camera, but this lucky two-year old made internet history, and because of a quick-thinking-acting police officer, he’s alive.

A Cleveland police officer responded to a drowning call.

“Honestly, I’ve been a police officer for eight years. I’ve seen some pretty serious stuff,” he said, “living in the city, being a police officer in the city. That’s probably been the only time I’ve ever been scared.”

The boy’s aunt described the child as purple and lifeless. She said she’ll never forget it.

This news story from CNN affiliate WJW shows the officer’s arms pumping the small chest. The footage was caught with the wearable camera officers in Cleveland are required to wear.

There’s no better reason to learn CPR. Be hero. Learn CPR.
