Nearly 40,000 Orange County Public School students will participate in a county\u2013wide CPR training Thursday (09\/26\/19) in recognition of this week\u2019s World Heart Day.<\/p>\n
In partnership with the\u00a0 American Heart Association, local fire crews will visit\u00a0 25 school sites and tech centers to teach students \u201chands only\u201d CPR.\u00a0\u00a0The training will include checking vitals, assessing ABC\u2019s (airway, breathing, circulation) and performing chest compression.<\/p>\n
Jimmy Clarity of the American Heart Association said that the training will not only benefit the schools, but the community as a whole.<\/p>\n
\u201cAllowing more folks to be trained on CPR really gives us the best opportunity to create the healthiest city possible and the healthiest community possible.\u201d<\/p>\n
Clarity added that the annual event has proven its worth from students who have already shared life-saving stories of their own and that their experiences will make for a more prepared tomorrow.<\/p>\n
\u201cUltimately, we want to make Orlando the safest community in the country and by training more of our students in hands-only CPR<\/a> we are creating a future generation of lifesavers.\u201d<\/p>\n According to the American Heart Association, a victim\u2019s chance of survival decreases by 10 percent every minute CPR is delayed.\u00a0 But if applied immediately, a\u00a0person\u2019s chances of survival can double or triple.<\/p>\n
